What do you do at URS?
As a Structural Engineer, I provide structural analysis and design, construction site observation and project management. I’m currently working on various projects including:
- Lincoln Road Interchange
- DART 26 - Auckland city railway station platform extensions
- Tamaki The Strand – Emergency Rugby 2011 Railway Station (back-up for Downtown station)
- Manukau MIT - Underground Station Railway
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
Structural engineers get to design everything that gets built.
What attracted you to your area of specialty?
Inspirational Indian Legend Sir. M. Visveswaraiah and the fascination towards structures.
Where did you study?
I have a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from India’s Visveswaraiah Technological University and a Master of Engineering Studies in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
What brought you to URS?
Though I had other offers, I chose to join URS because of a good work environment, better scope to build a strong career, exciting and challenging projects and mentoring from experienced senior colleagues who were willing to allow youngsters to take initiatives.
All these suggested that this was the right place to start building my career and provide me with the best start towards achieving my ambition of becoming a good Civil Structural Engineer. In addition, working for a company that complies with ISO standards is always a wonderful experience. Being a multi-disciplinary consultancy, URS also gives unlimited exposure to keep our skills and experience on par with the ever growing and highly competitive present day world.
What is your proudest achievement at URS?
Carrying out the design of a wide variety of structures independently.
What has been your biggest challenge at URS?
Working in coordination with different disciplines on various projects.
What is your favorite thing about working at URS?
The work culture, in general, and the social/multicultural work environment in particular.
What is your future career goal at URS?
To progress up the ladder in the sector I am currently working.
